Congratulations on taking this first step toward a healthy, beautiful smile! When you call to make your first appointment, we’ll ask you for some general information about yourself, your dentist’s name, and any dental insurance that you plan to utilize. Then we’ll schedule your examination appointment. There is no charge for your initial examination! Please plan to spend about 45 minutes with us that day. Children under 18 years of age must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian.
You’ll receive an information packet from us that includes an introduction to our office, a booklet about orthodontic treatment, and a medical history form that we’ll ask you to return to us in the enclosed envelope. You can also print off the forms listed below.
Before your visit, we’ll contact your dentist to request copies of x-rays that may be useful to your orthodontic evaluation. If you have dental insurance, we’ll also research how much you can expect your insurance company to provide in benefits.
At your first visit, you’ll be greeted at the front desk, and invited to log in on the computer. When you enter your last name, the computer will show your full name and ask “Is this you?” If it shows your name, you’ll push the Enter button.
You and any family member who accompanies you will meet Dr. Barkley. She will thoroughly examine your teeth, jaws and face. During the examination, all that you’ll be asked to do is to open and close many times. Dr. Barkley may also request your permission to take a panoramic x-ray if it will be helpful in your examination. You’ll love this x-ray – no little films to hold in your mouth! After your examination, Dr. Barkley will discuss with you whether orthodontic treatment is indicated. If treatment is indicated, she’ll discuss what your orthodontic treatment would involve. Our Treatment Coordinator will talk with you about anticipated treatment fees, and your payment options.
Often an initial exam reveals an orthodontic problem, but treatment will be more effective if postponed. In that case, Dr. Barkley will ask you to return for a recall examination in 6 or 12 months. There is no charge for your recall examination.
All of us at Chelsea Orthodontics look forward to meeting you! If you would like to have a staff member call you to answer your questions or set up an appointment, please click here.
